2022 Ford Super Duty
The Ford F-150 is the best selling pickup in North America, but sometimes you need a little more power and capability to smoothly handle the tougher tasks in working life. The 2022 Ford Super Duty truck range ups the ante with three bigger models: the F-250, F-350, and F-450, all boasting powerful engines, high capabilities, and upscale driving qualities. Here's what you can expect from these most powerful and dependable of heavy duty trucks.
Choice of Engines
Both the F-250 and the F-350 are supplied as standard with a beefy 6.2L V8 gas engine that makes 385 horsepower and 430lb-ft of torque. The base trims offer a six-speed automatic transmission, but a ten-speed automatic is the mainstay of the lineup, with a choice of either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive.
But that's not the end of the powertrain story. Opting for the 7.3L V8 gas pushes the ponies up to 430 hp and boosts the torque to 475lb-ft, while the 6.7L V8 diesel delivers 475 hp and a mammoth 1,050lb-ft. This latter engine is the main choice on the largest, most capable model in the Super Duty range, the F-450.
Towing and Payload Capacities
The wide range of powertrain, cab format, and pickup bed sizes means there's a huge spread of capability ratings across the Super Duty range. But opt for the most powerful of the diesel Super Duty models and you can expect a maximum payload capacity of 3,568kg and a top tow rating of 11,000kg with a regular hitch. Add in a fifth-wheel and gooseneck hitch and the maximum tow capacity rises to an astounding 16,818kg, ample for virtually any full-size truck task.
Interior, Infotainment, and Connectivity
The days when powerful trucks meant spartan interiors are well and truly over. Even at the lower trim levels the Super Duty range offers well-designed, comfortable materials that are easy to keep clean. Move up the trims and extras including ambient lighting, leather-trimmed upholstery, plus heated and cooled seats take comfort to a genuinely upscale level.
Infotainment is also a highlight. All models above the base level boast at least an 8" touchscreen display giving easy access to Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a Wi-Fi hotspot facility. Moving up the trims boosts the display size to fully 12", while also switching the smartphone integration options to wireless versions.
Active Safety and Driver Assist
Like most of the features in the 2022 Ford Super Duty range, the level of active safety and driver assist functions is highly configurable depending on the trim and upgrade level you choose. However, key standard and available highlights include:
- Adaptive cruise control.
- Automatic high beams.
- Lane keep assist.
- Trailer tow camera system with trailer backup assist.
